About Us
Overview
Inspire Nyack is a community-based, non-profit organization whose goal is to help develop, implement and maintain educational excellence in the Nyack Public School system. Inspire Nyack strives to support creative learning opportunities for all the students and faculty in the Nyack schools through innovative educational programs. The foundation's contributions have been targeted towards science, technology and math programs including the successful pre-engineering and robotics curriculum.
Why Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)?
- According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 15 of the 20 fastest growing occupations will require significant training in math and/or science by 2014.
- Professional information technology (IT) jobs will increase 24% by 2016.
- U.S. ranks 20th internationally based on our share of graduate degrees in engineering, computer science, and mathematics.
Inspire Nyack Foundation Contributed Over $200,000 to Fund:
- Purchase of Computers & Materials for Robotics in the Elementary and Middle Schools
- Consultant for Professional Development
- Expansion of the Authentic Science Research Program at the High School
- 22 High School students to attend the Science Inventions and Technology Competition
- Inspire Nyack Day -- In honor of Thomas Edison’s birthday, schools present assemblies in celebration of inventions and inventors.
Results - Our Children Learn
- Elementary Level
Engineering concepts, problem solving and construction design. - Middle School
Use of hand tools and small power tools. Students learn precision measurement, DC electronic circuits and soldering wires. - High School
Students engage in authentic science research such as bacteria communication, planetary volcanoes, neurotransmitters and tissue engineering among other areas of interest.
